The North Fork Valley (Paonia, Crawford & Hotchkiss) has three distinct communities. They are all interwoven with the love of small town living. Originally settled by the Utes who were forced out and supplanted by farmers, prospectors, ranchers, coal miners and immigrants from Europe. Today the towns of Paonia, Crawford and Hotchkiss are made up of organic farmers, ranchers, professionals working remotely, retirees, coal miners, outdoor enthusiasts and creatives.
